Why hire a communication consultant?
Though specific needs vary, there are many reasons to work with a communication consultant:
- Client relationships can disintegrate or fizzle out, with no apparent reason, when the parties aren’t communicating effectively.
- Teams often struggle to communicate and collaborate, causing internal tension and project slowdowns.
- Smart but opinionated executives cannot reach consensus on vital issues.
- Organizational changes require leadership and employee support … both of which must begin with a clearly articulated communication plan and its effective expression.
- Corporate communication can be ineffectual, redundant and dull, flattening employees’ enthusiasm.
Finding the right consulting partners is vital. To select the right consultancy for your needs, consider the following:
- Have the consultants you’ve met successfully addressed with other clients challenges that are similar to yours?
- Did they ask you insightful, appropriate questions?
- Did they display a bias toward proprietary solutions, or did they propose a variety of approaches?
- Did they clearly spell out fees, deliverables and expected results?
- Did you get a sense of rapport with them? Do you think that rapport will extend to your organization and/or customers?
